Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the hearts of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
